On 14 and 15 May, Vila Nova de Foz Côa hosted the Geração Ciência Festival, a key event resulting from close collaboration between the Côa Museum – CCV, the Tenente Coronel Adão Carrapatoso School Group, the Municipality of Vila Nova de Foz Côa and the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture (Ciência Viva), as part of the ERASMUS+ project ‘From Past to Future’.
This multi-sector partnership stands as a cornerstone for the region, demonstrating the capacity to transform historical heritage and scientific knowledge into real tools for development.
Over the course of the two days, the festival offered a comprehensive and diverse programme, focused on scientific literacy and cultural enrichment, which included:
- Knowledge and Debate: Lectures and ‘Conversations with Scientists’ sessions
- Hands-on Experiments: Themed workshops and science experiment stations
- Innovation and Technology: Immersive activities at the Hemispherium Viajante
- Sustainability and Biodiversity: Educational activities and interaction with animals
- Local Identity: Performing arts performances and traditional events
The Geração Ciência Festival attracted a huge turnout, with approximately 2,000 visitors attending. This success with the public was due to the active involvement of a vast network of partners and institutions from the public and social sectors, namely:
- School communities and higher education institutions
- Ciência Viva centres and Ciência Viva Clubs in Schools
- Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS)
- Environmental associations and other civil society organisations
