The Atapuerca Foundation is seeking participants for the European project “FROM PAST TO FUTURE: INNOVATIVE WAYS FOR THE PARTICIPATION AND INCLUSION OF YOUTH THROUGH ARCHAEOLOGICAL SITES IN EUROPE”.
Archaeological heritage is not merely a record of the past: it is also a powerful tool for building a future that is more inclusive, creative and committed to society. It is with this vision that the European project “FROM PAST TO FUTURE” was launched, aiming to promote the active participation of young people in the preservation, dissemination and enhancement of Europe’s archaeological heritage.
Within this framework, we are seeking undergraduate and postgraduate students who wish to join as AMBASSADORS OF CULTURE AND SCIENCE at three key institutions:
Atapuerca Foundation (Spain) – a world-leading authority on the origins of humanity.
Côa Valley Archaeological Park (Portugal) – one of the largest collections of Palaeolithic rock art in the open air.
Tautavel Museum of Prehistory (France) – an international centre for research and dissemination on European prehistory.
What does it mean to be an “Ambassador of Culture and Science”?
They will be young communicators who join an internship programme at one of these prestigious institutions, enabling them to become part of the communications departments of one of these key institutions through a virtual collaboration lasting several months. The aim is to bring the archaeological heritage and initiatives of F. ATAPUERCA, THE CÔA VALLEY ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK and the TAUTAVEL MUSEUM OF PREHISTORY to the European public through proactive, creative and participatory work as content creators and community managers on social media.
The ambassadors will help boost the visibility of these institutions on social media and among young people across Europe by involving them in the design and implementation of these institutions’ digital initiatives aimed at engaging other young people in the life of museums and archaeological sites, exploring new narratives and innovative tools to convey the value of archaeology in a contemporary context.
Who is this call for applications aimed at?
Undergraduate or postgraduate students in Communication, Heritage, Archaeology, History, Museology, Social Sciences or other related fields.
Young people motivated by innovation, civic engagement and the protection of cultural heritage.
Creative individuals with initiative and an appreciation for European cultural diversity.
What will this experience offer?
Becoming an “Ambassador of Culture and Science” is much more than an academic collaboration: it is an opportunity for personal and professional growth, developing cross-cutting skills that are highly valued in the cultural and scientific fields, such as communication, international teamwork and leadership in youth participation projects.
If you become an Ambassador of Culture and Science, you will enjoy a unique international experience working directly with scientific, museum and cultural management teams, joining an international network of students and professionals, and strengthening the links between science, culture and society. The experience will enable each participant to actively contribute to the development of a European model for youth participation in museums and archaeological sites, inspiring new generations to value the past as a foundation for imagining the future.
In addition to gaining a unique curricular experience and receiving the Youthpass certification approved by the E+ Programme and the EU, as well as the Ambassador of Culture and Science certificate validated by prestigious heritage institutions such as the organising organisations.
