Background:
The Asociación Europa 2020 is a non-profit organization founded in April 2014 in Puente Genil, a town located in the province of Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain. It emerged as a response to the need to bring Andalusian youth closer to the opportunities offered by Europe, particularly in terms of international mobility, education, training, and civic participation. With a history rooted in its experience with European programs such as "Youth" (2000-2006) and "Youth in Action" (2007-2013), the association has established itself as a regional benchmark for its work in promoting youth initiatives and its commitment to European integration. Its headquarters are located at Paseo Antonio Fernández Díaz "Fosforito," a central spot in Puente Genil, from where it coordinates projects with both local and international impact.
The primary goal of Europa 2020 is to promote awareness and participation of young people in European Commission programs, such as Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps (ESC). To achieve this, it develops outreach activities, awareness campaigns, and mobility projects ranging from youth exchanges to international volunteering opportunities. The association aims not only to inform but also to empower Andalusian youth, fostering values such as solidarity, social inclusion, and a sense of European community.
In addition to its focus on mobility, Europa 2020 organizes workshops, talks, and courses based on non-formal education, designed to develop key skills among young people, such as teamwork, problem-solving, and independence. The association also participates in transnational projects, such as "From Past to Future" (2024-2026), co-funded by Erasmus+, in collaboration with entities like the Vall de Côa Foundation (Portugal) and the European Center for Prehistoric Research in Tautavel (France), where it promotes the training of young people as ambassadors of cultural heritage. With over a decade of experience, Europa 2020 has helped position Puente Genil as a national reference point for youth mobility projects, strengthening the town’s connection to Europe and providing its residents with transformative opportunities funded by the EU.
